The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Apollo Hospital is the first nuclear medicine facility in private sector in Sri Lanka and is equipped with state-of-the-art Variable angle Dual Detectors SPECT Gamma Camera (e.cam) supported by latest e-soft software (2.5 version, Acquisition & Processing workstations), In-house Radiopharmacy and Low Dose Radio-iodine Therapy Facility. Department has a dedicated Nuclear Cardiology Unit with Treadmill (Schiller, Germany), Syringe & Infusion Pumps (for pharmacological Stress) and Defibrillator. Department is currently performing 150 imaging procedures every month including Myocardial Perfusion SPECT, gated SPECT, Bone SPECT, Whole Body Bone scan, DTPA & DMSA Renal Scan, Lymphoscintigraphy in Whole Body & dynamic mode; and Emergency Imaging incorporating Lung Perfusion Scan, Venography, GI Bleed Scan and Hepatobiliary Scintigraphy.

Nuclear medicine involves the study of the human body using a gamma camera to reveal the activity of organs within the body, allowing medical information to be gathered that may otherwise be unavailable or require surgery to obtain. Nuclear medicine is used in the diagnosis, management, treatment, and prevention of many diseases. This form of imaging can identify abnormalities far earlier than other diagnostic tests, allowing a disease to be treated early in its course.

At Apollo Hospitals Colombo, our highly qualified staff of technicians, along with our state-of-the-art technology helps us to detect your condition early. Our hospital uses the Dual Detector Gamma Camera, the most advanced technology in nuclear medicine and the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. Imaging with this camera takes only half the time than previous generation Gamma Cameras and is used to create sharp 3D imagery of the whole body or functions within the body.
