Apollo becomes ‘Lanka Hospitals’

17th November, 2009

Apollo Hospitals Colombo, one of the largest privately built hospitals in Sri Lanka – now controlled by the State – officially changed its name to Lanka Hospitals yesterday at a ceremony presided by Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Lanka Hospitals Chairman, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Lanka Hospitals ceremoniously unveiled the logo for the renamed institution at the auspicious time of 3:05 p.m. on November 16 at an event held at the hospital premises amidst the presence of the hospital management, specialists, staff and other distinguished invitees. “The new logo represents our devotion and dedication to our cause, our understanding of our customers’ medical needs and our belief that everyone requires an equal amount of attention when they walk in through our doors without discrimination,” said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lanka Hospitals, Lakith Peiris.

Addressing the media, director of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (SLIC), a member of the board of directors at Lanka Hospitals, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said the hospital today stands on the threshold of a new beginning. “I can assure you that our vision for the company is one that aspires to achieve the highest level of corporate excellence in the immediate future. Our vision for the company mirrors the bold vision of the President for our nation,” he added.

He added that in the year ahead, they will put in place a number of strategic initiatives which aim to propel Lanka Hospital to be positioned as a hospital and a corporate that is truly world class.

“Furthermore, as part of our vision to become the national healthcare provider, Lanka Hospitals will in future set up a chain of hospitals to provide quality healthcare at an affordable price to people living even outside Colombo. To this effect, our medium-term goal is to be recognised as one of the best healthcare solutions provider in the South Asian region,” he said.

Lanka Hospitals is a multi-specialty tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka and is one of the most beautiful structures in the country. The hospital was commissioned in 2002 as the flagship hospital of Apollo Hospitals India, but became a fully owned Sri Lankan entity with the take over by SLIC in the year 2006 as controlling shareholder.
