About the Fertility Clinic
The Lanka Hospitals Fertility Centre offers couples help in having a baby. Our comprehensive Fertility Treatment is available in a caring and compassionate environment from Senior Gynaecologists, aided by high tech equipment and the latest expertise.
What is Infertility?
Infertility is the inability to conceive after a year of unprotected sexual intercourse in women under 35, or after 6 months in women over 35, or the inability to carry a baby to term. Couples who have experienced barriers to fertility such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, irregular menstrual cycles, male factor infertility and so on, no longer need to wait before seeking expert care. Early investigation and treatment will eliminate the need to wait for years to hold your own baby in your arms.
Treatments offered at the Fertility Centre
- Sub-fertility Counselling
On your first visit, our Fertility Specialists review your medical history and call for basic tests to recommend some simple steps to achieve pregnancy without any medical intervention. - Follicular Monitoring Scan
For couples who need medical assistance for conception, this scan monitors on which day the female egg reaches maturity, helping couples identify the productive phase in the female when conception is possible. - Semen Analysis (SFA)
A semen analysis measures the amount of semen the male produces and determines the number and quality of sperm in the semen sample. - Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Also known as Artificial Insemination, a concentrated amount of the male's active sperm is injected into the female uterus on her most fertile day. By delivering the sperm into the uterus, the chances for conception are enhanced. - In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
If IUI is unsuccessful after five attempts, then couples can consider IVF. In this procedure, the male sperm and the female egg are united in a laboratory under controlled conditions and then transferred into the uterus for implanting. - Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
This procedure involves the direct micro-injection of a single sperm into a single egg in order the achieve fertilisation in IVF. This procedure is used specially in the case of male factor infertility with an abnormal semen analysis. - Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)
In the event of a zero sperm count, mature sperm in the testicle can be aspirated to perform the ICSI procedure. - Embryo Freezing
In IVF and ICSI, excess embryos are frozen and can be used if the couple’s first cycle fails. In case of success, these frozen embryos can be used when the couple wants a second child. Freezing can help reduce costs in the future.
