Prof Aloka Pathirana

(Consultant Oncological surgeon)

Prof Aloka Pathirana is a board-certified oncological surgeon with special interest in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery.

At present he is the Dean and Chair professor in surgery at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Years of experience

He obtained his MBBS degree from Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 1990 and joined the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1996.

He obtained his Masters in Surgery from Post Graduate Institute of the University of Colombo in 1997 after which he trained in UK for a period of 2 years in Dudley and Liverpool.

In the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, he was promoted to the post of professor in surgery in 2009 and as a senior professor in 2018.In 2020 he was appointed as the chair professor in surgery.

Since 2000 , He has been working at Colombo South Teaching Hospital, which is the second largest teaching hospital in Colombo as an honorary consultant where he established a tertiary referral Centre for hepato-Biliary surgery where regular multidisciplinary meetings are conducted and about 100 major HPB surgeries are carried under his supervision.
